A two-day multicultural market celebrating local businesses, food, music, dance and community is coming to the Halifax Waterfront this week.
The East Coast Markets & Exchange will take place August 28 and 29 at Foundation Wharf, near 1549 Lower Water St., running from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. each day. Admission is free.
What to Expect
Organized through the Nova Scotians Helping Nova Scotians Association, the event brings together local and newcomer-owned businesses, entrepreneurs, artisans, farmers, nonprofit organizations and community groups in a public marketplace designed around cultural exchange and community connection.
Visitors can expect a multicultural marketplace alongside live cultural performances, music, dance and interactive workshops. The event will also include storytelling, educational experiences and activities focused on intercultural understanding and community engagement.
The market is designed to be a place where people can shop, discover local businesses and experience the many cultures represented across Nova Scotia.
According to the organizers, East Coast Markets & Exchange was created to support economic participation while creating more inclusive public spaces where newcomers, entrepreneurs, artists and community organizations can connect with the wider community.
Free and Open to Everyone
The event is free to attend and will be held at the wheelchair-accessible Foundation Wharf on the Halifax Waterfront. Organizers say the market is family-friendly and pet-friendly, with public washrooms, seating and open space for performances and movement activities.
