Homegrown Business: Ashley Jollimore of The Ultimate Party & Rental Store

Ashley Jollimore is the Owner and General Manager of The Ultimate Party & Rental Store, a women-owned small business based in Lower Sackville, NS, that has been helping Atlantic Canadians celebrate in style since 2013. Specializing in quality event rentals, party supplies, giftware, and décor services, Ashley launched the business fresh out of NSCC after spotting a gap in the local market for well-priced, quality rentals — particularly in the wedding space she’d always dreamed of working in.

What problem did you want to solve with the business?

What is the best question a prospective customer could ask a member of your profession when comparing services? Give the answer as well.

I would suggest that if a customer were trying to decide on what company to go with, they first learn more about each business. Small vs Corporate, Small businesses are more known for treating you as a client, whereas corporations will tend to treat you like a number. Another good thing to review is client reviews or seeing previous work. We have almost all our events located on our Instagram and FB, so clients can see if we’re a match, and to see what venues we’ve worked with. Every company is going to offer something different; it’s key to find a business that’s excited to work with you, has the experience and maybe the education behind them to give you peace of mind.

What is the best part about what you do? What is the worst part?

Best part is going to set up our client’s vision. We always get so excited to bring all the designs together! Worst part is that our wedding season is squished into 6 months, so we’re crazy busy, and then things slow down. I’d love to be able to have a wedding season that’s all year.

What is your favourite joke about your own profession?

Easy – as an entrepreneur, we always say we’d hate to work 9-5, and instead we’re working 12+ hours a day, every day LOL

PAY IT FORWARD: What is another local business that you love?

One Day Affair – Shannon and her team are a powerhouse. We work with them throughout the year, and our clients always rave about their work.
