Five Minutes With: Indie Rock Band Beauts

Beauts is an indie rock band from Halifax. Combining heartfelt songwriting with soaring melodies and intricate percussion, Beauts is music for contemplating, yearning, and occasionally dancing. In the past decade, the band has released a smattering of EPs, LPs, and singles, including Beauts (2015), Waves/Wash (2016), and 2020’s award-winning album Dalliance. In the fall of 2025, Beauts released its long-awaited follow-up to Dalliance—an expansive, emotive collection of songs called Marigolds that explores new sonic textures and tonal experiments.

EP or LP?

LP, though certainly there have been some great EPs. I can’t imagine anyone picking EPs, though.

Early bird or night owl?

Early bird these days.

Road or studio?

Studio. Our bandmate Palmer has a studio (Cat Island) in Terrence Bay, NS, and we love being in there and working on songs.

Any shows or albums coming up?

We are playing Area 506 Fest in Saint John, NB, in early August. It’ll be a homecoming show for me, so there’ll be lots of friends and family there.

Rapid Fire Local Questions:

What is your favourite local restaurant?

Bar Kismet, The Narrows, Salvatore’s

What is your favourite street in your city and why?

North Park St. It has a nice view of the Commons, has some nice homes, is near the Citadel, and is generally a nice scene (especially in the summer). I’ve spent a lot of time on Agricola over the years, too.

What is your favourite park in your city and why?

Tough one, but probably Citadel Hill at sunset. It’s a good spot to put down a blanket, hang with pals, and watch the sun go down. The Shubie Park dog walk along the water is also special.

What is your favourite music venue in your city?

Recently, I’ve gone to shows at the Sanctuary Arts Centre and thought that it was an especially nice place to see a low-key performance.

What is your favourite music store in your city?

Obsolete Records
