Meet Bear Claw, an endearing guy who is learning how to trust people. When Bear Claw was rescued, he had severely matted fur, was anemic, and suffered from urinary crystals. He was deeply fearful of human contact. After 8 weeks in his foster home, he has made slow-and-steady progress. He now lets his foster family put a harness and leash on him, accepts gentle pats, and can tolerate short grooming sessions with lots of treats. Once terrified, he now prances around the fenced-in yard and dances for his dinner.
Bear Claw is neutral with most other dogs. However, he will be protective (resource guard) of his space, bed, food, and special chews from other dogs. We believe he will do best in a home that respects his boundaries and that will go at his pace.
Bear Claw is still building confidence walking on leash and is often still so nervous on leash he may not be able to relieve himself. Having a secured outdoor space will be a big help while he continues his house training. Bear Claw does still have accidents in the home if not encouraged to go outdoors.
To manage and prevent future urinary crystals and infections, Bear Claw will require a strict prescription urinary diet for the rest of his life.
