One of Halifax’s favourite summer traditions is back as Shakespeare By The Sea returns to Point Pleasant Park for another season of outdoor performances, bringing classic drama, family entertainment and a unique theatrical experience to audiences throughout July and August.
Running from July 4 to August 30, Atlantic Canada’s longest running outdoor theatre festival will once again transform the historic Cambridge Battery into an open air stage, with performances beginning nightly at 7 p.m. from Tuesday through Sunday.
This year’s season features three productions:
• Beauty and the Beast: The Fairy Tale Game Show – a world premiere family musical that reimagines the classic fairy tale as a fast paced television game show filled with comedy, music and audience participation.
• Julius Caesar – Shakespeare’s timeless political tragedy, presented in a bold outdoor production that explores ambition, betrayal and power.
• Unrehearsed Hamlet – the festival’s signature one night only event where performers take the stage without traditional rehearsals, creating an unpredictable and entertaining performance in which anything can happen.
The festival continues its commitment to making live theatre accessible by offering Pay What You Can admission alongside reserved seating options. Visitors can also reserve “Sweet Seats,” which include a provided chair in a prime viewing location, or choose front row “Sweetest Seats” for the closest view of the performance.
Set against the natural backdrop of Point Pleasant Park, Shakespeare By The Sea has become one of Halifax’s signature summer events, offering professional theatre in one of the city’s most scenic outdoor venues.
