Sean Benton is wholeheartedly committed to his painting practice, and particularly his growing series of portraiture. Sean has a great sensitivity to colour transitions and value, giving his portraits a vitality that is striking. He seeks every opportunity to show his work. Sean has a deep understanding of the particulars of a painting practice and is always up for hashing out ideas and working on common problems.

Which ’hood are you in?
Halifax, Antigonish, mostly visiting the west end and downtown.
What do you do?
Paint in an expressive realist style, show my work as much as I can where I can, teach art classes at Stfx University, constantly look for other art post-secondary teaching jobs, and supply teach in local schools.
What are you currently working on?
Beginning a series of 3/4 figures. I’ve always done portraits, but I’m beginning to paint live models and finish the works at home in the studio.
