Hailing from Wolfville, Nova Scotia, Colrain is an indie-rock ensemble known for their rich lyrical content, polished instrumentals, and strong ties to their local community. Their dynamic set ranges from melancholic ballads to uplifting rock, creating a unique atmosphere of energy and connection with the audience. Founded in October 2022 on a street where three of their five members lived, Colrain has grown from rehearsal-room dreams into one of the Maritimes’ most exciting emerging acts — and they’re just getting started.

Favourite musician growing up?
U2, The Beatles, and Michael Jackson. Three very different acts, but each one taught us something different about what a great song — and a great performance — can do to a room.
Favourite musician now?
Ariel Posen, Half Moon Run, and Olivia Dean. Artists who prioritize craft and feeling over everything else. Exactly the kind of music we aspire to make.
Guilty pleasure song?
The entire Kenny G discography. No shame. Smooth saxophone is timeless, and we will stand by that.
Live show ritual?
We try to sit down and share a meal together before the show — it grounds us and gives us a moment to just be a band before everything kicks off. Then Jacob rallies the troops with a pre-show pep talk, we do a group hug, and we’re ready to go. Works every time.
Favourite local musician?
Good Dear Good — go find them immediately if you haven’t already.
EP or LP?
Both, and we mean that. As listeners, there’s nothing quite like sitting down with a full LP and letting it take you somewhere. But as a band, EPs give us room to experiment and explore without the pressure of a complete statement. We love what each format allows.
Early bird or night owl?
Night owl, without question.
Road or studio?
Road. There’s an energy in a live room that you just can’t replicate anywhere else. The studio is where songs are built — the road is where they come alive.
Anything to promote right now?
We have a lot going on, and we couldn’t be more excited. First — we were invited to play the Stan Rogers Folk Festival in Canso, NS, this July, which has honestly been a goal of ours since the very beginning. To get that call was a full-circle moment for this band.
Then, at the end of the summer, we have two album release shows: August 29th at The Carleton in Halifax (tickets available now!) and September 19th at the Al Whittle Theatre in Wolfville. Come celebrate with us — it’s been a long time coming.
Where can we follow you?

Rapid Fire Local Questions:
Favourite local restaurant?
Kings Arms Commons or Troy — both have fed us well, and we won’t pick a favourite.
Favourite street in your city and why?
Blomidon Terrace in Wolfville, without hesitation. That’s where Colrain was born — where we had all our early rehearsals and where three of our five members lived. That street holds a lot of history for us.
Favourite park and why?
Willow Park. We played an incredible fundraiser show there last summer, and the energy was something special. It’s also just a genuinely great spot to spend an afternoon in Wolfville.
Favourite music venue?
Devour! Studios — a unique and special room.
Favourite music store?
This one’s easy: the Acadia School of Music storage rooms. Four out of five of us were — or still are — Acadia Music students, so those rooms basically doubled as our second home. It counts.
