“A Day in the Life” with: Visual Artist Emily Krueckl

Greg Aver, the partner of Emily Krueckl, who sees her in her home studio every day, sees her constantly in her creative zone, thinking of new ideas and ways to improve herself as an artist and offer the world something unique.

“Whether it is painting, drawing, felting, etc., her drive never ceases to amaze me, and I am so proud of the discipline she shows in her craft.

What astonishes me the most is her ability to truly represent life on canvas. I envy that she can see an image of someone and put it on canvas without losing any sense of the person’s identity. It blows me away and is something that everyone around her recognizes and praises.

A major part of her success is the fact that Emily Krueckl lives and breathes art. Even when her painting time is finished, and it is time to relax and throw on some television, she refuses to sit still and continues to improve her skills, whether it is through drawing, felting, or digital art. I encourage her to take a break once in a while, but I realize that this is who she is and is what makes her the exceptionally talented artist she has become.”

I like to bring sketchbooks with me while I run around the city. Here’s one of the pages from last week while waiting at an appointment.
A shot of my studio corner. I like to fill it with drawings and things that inspire me and make me happy!
Just adding the finishing touches… This painting is called 20 Something and is inspired by my friend Molly’s birthday last year.
A stack of some of my 6” x 6” paintings. I like to use these to explore new ideas. You can also see my beloved needle-felted skeleton, Roger, in the background. He’s my mascot, and I take him to markets with me!
Having a window in my studio space is one of my favourite parts. I love sitting in the sunbeams while I create.

Digital art has been my newest creative pursuit. I recently inherited my late grandmother’s iPad, and to honour her, I have been using the photos she took to teach myself digital art. I don’t have a lot of time right now for digital work, so I like to sneak it in with my coffee in the morning or snuggled up in bed for the last hour of my day.
