Born from a shared leap of faith and a deep belief that art can make the world brighter, Joy and Fury Art is a Halifax-based creative studio turning bold ideas into vibrant prints, cards, stickers, and original works. Founded by lifelong artists Greg and Maureen after they left their office jobs in 2022, the business blends digital and traditional techniques to celebrate joy, emotion, and meaning—proving that beauty, happiness, and a little creative fury still matter. We talked with Greg & Maureen Fownes, the owners, founders and artists behind Joy and Fury Art.

What is your business called and what does it do?
Joy and Fury Art is a locally owned small business based in Halifax, Nova Scotia. We specialize in creating vibrant art prints, greeting cards, stickers and original works! Our name encapsulates the artistic process – the joy of creating, and the fury that comes with striving for excellence.
What made you want to do this work?
As lifelong artists, we’ve always dreamed of pursuing art full-time but struggled to make it happen individually. After meeting in 2015 and falling in love, we envisioned a shared creative future. In 2022, we left our office jobs to launch Joy and Fury Art, a platform to bring our bold, original creations to life and share them with the world.
What problem did you want to solve with the business?
We aim to spread joy with our art! Seeing someone smile when they look at our art fills us with an incredible feeling. Art matters, happiness matters, and beauty matters. There is enough sadness and darkness in the world, so we are working to change that.
Who are your clientele/demographics?
We have found our audience to be a vibrant mix of lifelong art lovers and fresh faced collectors just discovering their taste. Greg’s bold, masculine designs often resonate with men, while Maureen’s softer, feminine pieces tend to attract women. However, both styles have broad appeal, making our demographic varied and inclusive.
How does your business make money? How does it work?
Greg is a digital artist, creating pieces in Photoshop using a drawing tablet. Maureen is a traditional artist who uses a variety of mediums, ranging from acrylic paint to markers. Every art piece we make is then made into a high-quality art print, greeting card or sticker. We sell our art online via our website JoyandFuryArt.com, where we ship worldwide, and we also sell our works at local craft markets and shows.
Where in the city can we find your profession?
Artists can be found all across Halifax. We have been fortunate enough to have our work featured in Halifax art galleries like Argyle Fine Art and The Dart Gallery, along with stores like The Trainyard, EastCoasters and Frabjous Delights. You can also find us at local craft markets in and around Halifax.
What is the best question a prospective customer could ask a member of your profession when comparing services? Give the answer as well.
The best question a customer could ask either of us is – what does this artwork mean to us? Art is completely subjective, and everyone sees something slightly different. Each piece will have a different answer, and we love discussing the process and the intent behind each one. When it comes to art, there really isn’t much use in comparing; just listen to your intuition – no one can tell you what stirs your soul.

What is the best part about what you do? What is the worst part?
The best part of making art is making art! When we complete a piece we are proud of, the feeling is euphoric, and that is an addictive feeling! Bringing a piece of art to life is incredible and rewarding for us both, and putting that art into someone’s hands is a satisfying feeling. Seeing our art on a customer’s wall – that is the best feeling of all!
And the worst part? Bookkeeping and taxes! Which is something we imagine most artists would agree with 🙂
What is your favourite joke about your own profession?
“Artists are weird”, and we can’t argue with that! Haha.
