Rio the dog needs a new home in the Dartmouth area

Her name is Rio, and she dances in delight, just like that river sparkling in the sunny light. And when she shines, she really shows you all she can!

Rio is approximately 8 years old and loves lounging on soft dog beds, spending time with her people and is slowly learning about all the things the world has to offer. Rio’s previous living situation was limited, and it doesn’t appear that she may have ever experienced things like car rides, walking on a collar and leash, grooming, or house training. Rio will have accidents inside the home if not monitored closely and provided with frequent opportunities to relieve herself outside. Rio is making progress and would love to find a family of her own to help her continue her journey in a calm and patient environment.

Rio does have some discomfort in her back and back legs, and currently receives Gabapentin, which we believe she will require for life. She has also been licking her front right leg, and it is possible this may be related to long-term stress in her previous life.

Rio is in foster care and is not staying at the Dartmouth NS SPCA. If you are interested in meeting with Rio, please fill out an adoption application here. Once your application has been received and reviewed, you will be contacted to schedule a visit.
